## Choose Bondi if

- You want to walk the coastal path south to Tamarama, Bronte and Coogee.
- You want to be closer to the city by road: about 7 km, against Manly’s 17.
- You want the scene: the most famous beach in Sydney, and the crowds and cafés that come with it.
- You’ll stay on or just behind Campbell Parade. Off that strip, every walk home climbs.

## Choose Manly if

- You want a town that’s flat between the ferry wharf and the beach, with almost every bed a few minutes from the sand.
- You like the idea of a 22–30 minute ferry across the harbour as your way into the city.
- You want to snorkel: Cabbage Tree Bay, between Manly and Shelly Beach, is a no-take aquatic reserve.
- You’re on a hostel budget: Manly’s dorm beds were $73–$100 a night when we checked, Bondi’s $92–$114.

## Getting between them
