# The best Sydney beaches for surfing

Manly is the best Sydney beach to learn to surf and stay by the waves: gentle waves at the south end, a surf school and beds on the sand. For experienced surfers, Sydney’s National Surfing Reserves are Maroubra (2006), Cronulla (2008), North Narrabeen (2009) and Manly–Freshwater (2010).

How we ranked: Learners first: gentle waves, a surf school and a bed nearby. Then the National Surfing Reserves and named breaks. Surf between the flags only when you’re swimming; surfers stay outside them.
