Clovelly is the best Sydney beach for kids: calm water behind a breakwater, lifeguards all year and a playground behind the sand. Coogee and Manly are the best family bases, with a calm pool or a calm beach close by and places to stay on the flat by the sand.

How we ranked: Ranked on calm water, lifeguards, and facilities for children, then on how easy it is to stay nearby. Always swim between the flags.
