A harbour village near the tip of South Head, with calm beaches, a ferry wharf and the ocean cliffs of The Gap a few minutes’ walk away. One hotel, right on the water.

Watsons Bay has one place to stay: the Watsons Bay Hotel, on the beachfront by the wharf, a 1-minute walk to the sand. It was $231 a night when we checked. Camp Cove, the bigger harbour beach, is a few minutes’ walk north. There’s no hostel, and the beaches here are calm harbour water, not surf.

## One hotel, and it’s on the water.

Watsons Bay sits on the harbour side of the South Head peninsula. The beach by the wharf is small and calm; Camp Cove, where the First Fleet landed on 21 January 1788, is a few minutes north, and the ocean cliffs of The Gap are just over the rise to the east.

When we checked, the Watsons Bay Hotel was the only accommodation business. Other “Watsons Bay” results were a single holiday cottage and hotels across the harbour in Mosman and Manly.

## Which end of the beach

- **The bay.** The beach in front of the hotel and the wharf, with Doyles on the Beach and the ferry. The water is calm harbour water.
- **Camp Cove.** The bigger harbour beach, a few minutes north, where the First Fleet landed in 1788. The path continues to Lady Bay and Hornby Lighthouse on South Head.
- **The Gap.** Over the rise to the east, the ocean cliffs of The Gap look out to the Pacific and across to Manly.
